I think it is sufficient to reply that these
Policemen were sent out with the approval of
the Sof S. because we must have a certain
number of trained European Police in H. Kong,
but that we shall not fail to bear in mind
the undesirability of sending out to Colonial

REC RE: 25 J
We have had a letter from the General Officer Commanding, China Command, bringing to notice that six fine 'young men aged about 22, height between 5 feet 8 and 6 feet 3 inches have just arrived in the Colony and that they have been sent out by the Colonial Office to join the Colonial Police. The General Officer Commanding points
out that he is at the same time sending home recruits for the new army many of whom are not up to the stamp of these men and that the sending home of these men involves heavy expense to His Majesty's Government, he adds 'comment is needless'. Perhaps you would not mind bringing this to the notice of the Department concerned to see whether they have any remarks to make. The General Officer Commanding point of view has possibly been considered and there may be rather more to be said than he suspects.
Yours sincerely,
It. W. 10. Mitually
